MENTAL ILLNESS STIGMA: HOW WE FAILED OLUWAFUNMILOLA ADISA!!

As a follow up from my previous post "The girl who killed her daughter" i must say that personally i kept clinching my fist because my son is about the same age as her late daughter and from watching this video it was so certainly obvious, that innocent girl could have been saved on so many levels. That beautiful soul would have been alive if we would for once be able to SEPARATE our faith from REALITY......yes mental illness is a reality!!

 

We failed this mother, we failed her family, we failed her dead daughter ....  There was a thread and NOBODY took proper actions:

 

1. SHE WAS RAPED but she told her sister and nothing was done, so she blamed herself for going there classic case of SELF ACCUSATION.

 

2. SHE BECAME PREGNANT  didn't want the baby because she wanted to go to college and wasn't financially ready to carry that responsibility.

3. SHE HAD THE BABY and was constantly reminded of her pain, rejection and how much God hated her.

4. SHE ATTEMPTED TO KILL THE CHILD SEVERALLY, this for me is the most annoying because just a day before (Sunday 10th) she almost carried out her plans and instead of her sister to make sure that the child was taken away from her, she called friends and pastors to come pray to her. Don't get me wrong that's a great move but at some point there should be a SEPARATION so that both parties can BE ALIVE!!

MENTAL ILLNESS is as real as it can get and in as much as you don't want to be called CRAZY or STIGMATIZED, once you start getting strange thoughts in you head, mood swings, depression, anxiety etc Pls separate yourself FIRST from the source and then seek for help. 

 

Especially, for first time moms post pregnancy depression is REAL i know because i experience it, ask for help with the baby so you can REST and just take in all the changes you are currently going through then talk to someone if you must, PRAY and take it a day at a time. 

We have to do BETTER , we need to understand when its time to seek PROFESSIONAL help and not feel like we don't trust God enough. The bible says FAITH without WORKS is DEAD!! People go through TRAUMATIC experiences in their lives and have been scared, if not properly handled they can project these hurt on other and not show any form of EMOTION.
