Friday 11th march must have had Ibinabo Fiberesima wake up with mixed feelings, the embattled president of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN) was in court as the final judgement concerning her appeal was to be declared.
She broke down in tears as the Court of Appeal Lagos Division, Friday dismissed an appeal challenging a Lagos High Court judgement which sentenced her to serve five years in prison for the death of one Dr. Giwa Suraj.
In 2005, she was sentenced to 5 years in jail or an option of 100,000 for reckless driving which caused the death of Suraj in an auto accident along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos.
Ibinabo through her lawyer,Nnaemeka Amaechina urged the court to set aside the sentence and restore the decision of the Magistrate Court which sentenced her to a N100, 000 fine.
But the court dismissed the appeal and affirmed the High Court’s judgment.
Her lawyer,said it would be challenged at the Supreme Court adding that a Notice of Appeal had been filed already.
